This session will give an overview of the five big ideas of Teaching for Mastery in mathematics (coherence, fluency, mathematical thinking, representation & structure, variation) developed by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and how these support children with developing a deep understanding in this subject. The session will share practical examples of how these can be integrated into lessons to ensure all children are developing a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
