This session aims to demonstrate how teachers of mathematics can develop understanding of mathematical concepts and give practical examples of what this might look like in the classroom. The session draws on evidenced-based approaches such as the use of manipulatives/representations and variation theory to show how the underlying mathematical structure can be exposed leading to learners gaining a deeper understanding of the ideas.
